Wroclaw Research Center EIT+

Wroclaw Research Center EIT+ integrates the research potential of the academic society of Lower Silesia. The Company’s strategic goal is to organize and carry out interdisciplinary research in the fields of biotechnology, medical technologies, clean power generation, information and communication technology, nanotechnology and advanced materials. These activities will be accompanied with initiatives promoting technology transfer to the industry. Additional important task of the Company is introducing novel forms of teaching for graduate and PhD students, as well as
advanced staff training methods. Thorough market analyses enable the Company to focus its research and development on the newest technological advances in the selected areas.

EIT+, a program for supporting innovative and competitive knowledge-based economy, has been initiated in Wroclaw. The key element of the program is to prepare the City and the Region to host one of the Knowledge and Innovation Communities of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). In order to efficiently manage the EIT+ program a specialized commercial law company Wroclaw Research Center EIT+ was founded in 2007. The stakeholders of the company are: the Municipality of Wroclaw, the Lower Silesian Governor’s Office and five universities:
Wroclaw University of Technology, University of Wroclaw, Wroclaw Medical University, Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences and Wroclaw University of Economics.

Wroclaw Research Center EIT+ is responsible for the implementation of a project called “The Lower Silesian Center for Materials and Biomaterials – DolBioMat” aimed at building and equipping a sci-tech campus in the Wroclaw district of Pracze Odrzańskie. The project involves creating a network of high-tech research laboratories located on the campus and at the universities of Wroclaw. This initiative with an estimated cost of over 140 million euro will integrate the academic society and constitute the City’s offer for the possible location of one of the EIT Knowledge and Innovation Communities in Wroclaw. By the year 2014 Wroclaw Research Center is going to implement two large research projects with the total budget of over 57 million euro, financed from the Innovative Economy Operational Program. The project entitled “The Application of Nanotechnology in Advanced Materials - NanoMat” is carried out in the field of nanotechnology and advanced materials. The other project, “Biotechnologies and advanced medical technologies - BioMed” encompasses the strategic area of biotechnology and medical technologies. It comprises research and promoting cooperation with innovative industrial partners for the development of advanced medical technologies. The main objective of the program is the development of novel therapeutic and diagnostic agents and improved drug delivery methods.
